Fido may love to hit the road with his master, but as my pet-loving friend Fern Siegel says, not every hotel is happy to see his wagging tail scuttle through the front door.

To help pet owners, Dawn and Robert Habgood, who have covered the pet travel field for 20 years, penned Pets on the Go, a 1,000-page guide to more than 18,000 pet friendly hotels in the U.S. They also run www.petsontogo.com.

Here are their 9 most accomodating hotels in the country. But beware that many are of these hotels are pedigreed, and if you're looking for inexpensive, you may be barking up the wrong tree. However, the amenities just may be worth it.

Loews Giorgio Hotel
Denver, Colorado

From the vet-developed menus to the pet concierge, Loews has long been the national brand for pet-lovers. Is your dog a vegetarian? Not a problem. Need a pet-sitter? They've got you covered.

W Seattle Hotel
Seattle, Washington

All chic pets proudly wear their W Hotels pet tag, sleep on a custom W pet bed and shop for leashes and munchies in Whatever/Whenever. And after a day of leisure, the handsome hotel associates are happy to take your pet for a stroll.

Inn by the Sea
Cape Elizabeth, Maine

Flip through the dog family album of canine photos taken upon check-in, and you'll see that dogs are everyone's favorite guest. A staff of animal lovers makes a stay with your pet stress-free. Try a Bow Wow Burger on the room service menu.

Woof Cottages

Nantucket, Mass.

The name is a dead giveaway, but the secret is in the toys at Woof Cottages. From a basket of treats to Nantucket bandanas, it's all play and no work for dogs and owners alike.

The Ritz-Carlton
New York, N.Y.

For dogs with a rock-star complex, nothing beats the 22-carat-gold-plated pet ID from the Ritz. Its VIP (Very Important Pooch) program includes an aromatherapy coat spritz and home-baked cookies. Hand-painted ceramic dinnerware and a quilted travel mat make for fine dining, and Burberry pet raincoats are on loan for rainy days.

Westin Pasadena
Pasadena, California

Pets receive a welcome kit with toys and treats, a custom pet bed, food and water bowls, a pet-in-room door sign and special treats at turn-down. Other pet-friendly services include dog-sitting, dog-walking, and grooming services plus local pet information such as dog parks and vets.

San Ysidro Ranch
Montecito, California

Pets are welcome in freestanding cottages for an additional $100 fee. Their Privileged Pets Program includes all sorts of delectable goodies, a cedar fleece bed, Pawier water, bowls, tennis balls, a pet menu and 17 miles of trails. Guests and their pets have their names spelled out on a sign in front of their cottages in wood-burned letters. Just like home — only better.

Paw House Inn
Killington, Vermont

Pets are very welcome with a veterinarian's health certificiate. A water bowl and dog bed are provided. Mario's Playhouse is a spacious barn with doggie living rooms, indoor play areas, and an outdoor, fenced-in yard.

Nine Zero
Boston, Massachusetts

Is your dog a sucker for rubdowns? Try the pet massage services at Nine Zero. The Dog House package includes a designer Pet Welcome treat made especially for your pet. Nine Zero pet bowls and a pet bed are placed in your room for use throughout your stay.

Great information! Thank

Great information! Thank you. I am planning to travel with my small dog, Lexi, this summer. I typically board her or leave her with my mother but I am taking her with me for a relaxing New England vacation. Do you know if any Marthas Vineyard hotels allow pets? If not, I will have to check out Woof Cottages in Mass. Thanks again for providing a list! Very helpful.

I am familiar already with

I am familiar already with some of them, since I am a pet owner I book my vacation around this kind of hotels, there's no other solution for me. Now I am trying to find some pet friendly Miami Florida hotels since I have big plans already for the next summer. Tanks for sharing the list, I'll add it to my travel journal.
