Who does my retirement go to after I die?

My question is regarding retirement money. My friend wants to get a divorce, but she does not want her ex to receive one penny of her retirement after she passes away. How can this be avoided? What does she need to do to ensure that when she passes away, someone other than her ex husband receives her retirement money or pension? What documents does she need to create? Thank you for any information you can offer me.
