Cheryl Benton
Bio:
Cheryl Benton, founder and publisher of The Three Tomatoes — a free weekly e-newsletter written for “women who aren’t kids” — launched the first e-newsletter two years ago to sixty of her friends and acquaintances just for the fun of it. To her amazement, through word of mouth and mouse alone, her subscriber base now numbers in the thousands. So today she has a lot of new friends, a web site, and fun events that attract “women who aren’t kids.” Aimed at these vital mid-life women who have no desire to be kids, but still want to look good, feel great, and enjoy life to the fullest, The Three Tomatoes gives them an insider’s guide to living, playing, and having fun in and out of New York City. The weekly newsletters are sometimes irreverent, often fun, usually informative, and always good natured. Topics range from “the age thing”, to restaurants and bars (that actually have good food and drinks and you can hear yourselves talk) to fashion, beauty, entertainment, and anything else that happens to be “coursing through our hormonally charged brains.” Benton, who has had a successful 30 year career in the New York City advertising agency business, conceived the concept because she felt marketers and the media, were virtually ignoring an entire group of accomplished women, who are smart and savvy, have disposable incomes, drink the occasional martini, and know how to order from a wine list just because they are (gasp!) over the age of 45. “Living and working in New York City in the land of size zero twenty-something’s, I was truly starting to feel like an invisible woman,” says Benton. “Since no one else was noticing us, it became apparent we were just going to have to take charge ourselves, and that ultimately is what gave birth to The Three Tomatoes.” In addition to publishing The Three Tomatoes — her passion — Cheryl has a "day job," her own marketing consulting firm. She resides in New York City and Long Island with her husband and chocolate lab, Buck.
