Is Two Really Greater Than One?
Should I have stayed married?
Struggling alone financially with the kids left me working two jobs and being the only one to handle bills, homework problems, school activities, shopping, and the never ending laundry.
So many times, I would secretly envy the people who had the luxury of parents or other siblings who jumped right in to help. How much easier would it have been to have relatives help with the raising of my kids, or to offer to baby sit.
Or maybe for them place an extra few dollars in my hands at the end of the month when there was a zero balance in my checking account. The ones who had money to put in a savings account for that emergency that always came up.
How sad to realize that the little bit of jewelry I owned back then is now forever lost in some pawnshop — I couldn't offer it to my daughters when they grew up. It was what I had to make to make ends meet.
So the answer to the question. Is it better to be one then stay as two? Three Dog Night had a song called "One Is The Loneliest Number" — it was my theme song for many years. The second line to the song was much more true for me: ‘Two can be as bad as one."
Do the math yourself. One is truly the sum of it all.
