More Is What I Want
Every October I celebrate not only my birthday, but one more year of life, by heading to Jamaica.
Each year, I head to the island and experience eight days of sun, blue water and the best mango smoothies with double shots of rum.
The flight is cheap, and I stay at the same hotel each year — Toby's, a fantastic little place that is clean and safe. How wonderful to be greeted back each year by a staff who remembers your name. And yes, I go there alone — to the surprise and concerns of many.
Afraid of what, I ask them. Yes, we've all heard horror stories of women who travel abroad, but I'm very cautious of my surroundings at all times. I never drink too much, never get into an unmarked cab and politely say no thank-you when being offered certain things. I still have a fantastic time.
I've swam with the dolphins, rode a horse bareback into the ocean and climbed to the top of a waterfall. I've stopped on the side of the road for some fresh coconut water, and watched the most beautiful sunsets while watching beautiful men dive off of cliffs into the ocean.
For me, this is what it means to experience life. How sad to be so afraid of getting out there to embrace different things in life. To be in your 70s or older, only to look back and wish you had done more.
Believe me, more is what I plan on experiencing.

Good for you!
Jeanne,
Good for you for treating yourself to "you" time. I think I may do the same some time if I ever get up the courage.
