The New Year Brings A New Beginning
In the Jewish religion, this is a very important time of year. Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are celebrated about a week apart, and symbolize the beginning of a new year.
It's a time when you look within yourself to identify the mistakes you have made in the past year, and acknowledge the changes you plan to make in the year ahead. Last year's book is closed, and a new book is opened with a clean slate.
Although I'm not religious, these two holidays are quite meaningful, and I always attend services with my family. For me, this was the most symbolic New Year I have experienced. Although I have no regrets about the things I have done in the past year — since Steve and I separated — some may not have been the wisest choices.
I was newly single, and I entered into a new experience. With those experiences came lapses in judgment on some occasions. I am forgiven, as it is said, and I'm able to start fresh for the new year.
Making this even more symbolic for me is that I got the call from my lawyer today, informing me that I'm officially divorced! I was not sure what to expect, and told all of my girlfriends to be prepared for an emergency dinner when the time came.
To be honest, I don't really feel much of anything today. I hung up the phone and took a walk outside to catch my breath. I was numb for a moment, and then returned to my office and continued on with my day. I took another deep breath and smiled.
I officially am able to close one book and start my new one. This has truly been a year that I'm happy to put in my past, and I'm looking forward to starting fresh.
In Hebrew, we say Shana Tova, which translates to "A Good Year." And I truly believe that it will be. It's my wish for myself and for all of you.

Shana Tova!
Shana Tova to you Michelle. You are a very wise woman. Reflect and learn from the past but don't look back, somewhere out there is your true Bashert. In the book of life, we learn to move on no matter how heavy our heart. Close your eyes, make a wish, take a deep breath and move forward. "Shalom", peace be with you.
