As The Weird Turns

Bizarre kidnapping accusations rip at Florida family

When you've been through a divorce, it's easy to feel like you've seen, heard and experienced just about everything there is to see, hear and experience in a relationship.

But you, I and many others haven't seen a thing compared to a bunch of people involved in one of the strangest situations I've heard about. As a report in the Palm Beach Post aptly suggests, this one reads like the script of a daytime soap opera.

Long story short, this is what happens when really wealthy people can't figure out what they want.

Jody and Nicholas Tagaris divorced in 1991, but then got remarried to each other. Now, they're getting divorced again, amid all sorts of petty-sounding accusations flying in more directions than you can possibly keep track of.

Nicholas' kids say Jody attempted to kidnap him. Nicholas has apparently left Florida, where the couple lived, and gone back to Massachusetts, where he once owned a multi-million dollar business. Jody, who has at times been a player in Florida Republican politics, concocted a Web site pleading for help to bring Nicholas home. At one point Nicholas requested a restraining order against his kids. To top it off, Nicholas suffered a stroke four years ago. So there's just a little bit of turmoil going on here.

I don't know what to make of situations like these. Nobody wants this. I mean, when you hear about something like this, it makes you wonder why anyone ever gets married in the first place.

Are people really getting to

Are people really getting to a point of desperation that they lose all sense of being rational and go to extreme lengths to be heard? it's frightening, really, and sad. Grow up and deal with your problems like civilized human beings. Civilized... hmmm... that 's a characteristic we could all get back to
having.
