Naturally, you find a picture of a skinny girl in front of a boat. I will have to provide you with a reality check picture. Listen girls, although never married, it sure feels like I've been through a few divorces, especially the last go around. Needless to say, I've sat in the co pilot/navigator/moral support seat of many friends and one sibling's divorce. I have 4 sisters and a brother and 14,000 neices, I have given and/or attended 18,694 showers in my lifetime. Why does someone have to get married to be honored like this?, pffft I say. There is an episode of "Sex and The City" where Carrie registers at Monolo Blahnik for a misplaced pair of shoes and I thought that was a wonderful idea! Well they were right — only we are much worse now. Only kidding — not really — half-kidding...geez we love to laugh.

Anyway, there's a pretty diverse group: Some married forever, with kids without kids, some divorced, and some have just stayed solo. Oh yeah, and one honorary husband who can't get enough of us. The group grows every time we convince someone through a chain of frenzied emails to locate someone from our past and convince them they are missing out on all the fun.

For years, when I was struggling as a single mom gone awry, I wouldn't show up. Then one day I was glad I did, and the unconditional girlfriend friendship convinced me to do it again and again.

Last night, one of the "lifelong solo" girls, having recently launched Mr. Wrong, announced she bought herself a boat. I suggested we give her a "boat shower". Solo gals get ripped off. They never get the payback benefit of all those bridal and baby showers they've paid into.

So it's done. The "boat shower" is in the works. We're just waiting for her to register at some marine shop so we don't all show up with the same little dinghys.

http://www.firstwivesworld.com/community/house-bloggers/debbie-nigro/how-bout-a-boat-shower#comments Leisure and Fun Moving Beyond Divorce Fri, 11 Apr 2008 13:18:04 -0400 Debbie Nigro 6365 at http://www.firstwivesworld.com
